William Carpenter, founder of
ABQBJJ, in 1996, after studying Japanese Jiu-Jitsu and Judo for nine
years. He was approached at
that time by his teacher and asked to further spread the art
of Jiu-Jitsu and Judo. William has been teaching Japanese Jiu-Jitsu
in
Albuquerque, New Mexico for the last twelve years. William has
always held a stronger interest in the grappling aspect of Jiu-Jitsu
and Judo. In 1996, he won the New Mexico State Championships in Judo,
by submitting every opponent he faced. William sought to further his
knowledge of the grappling arts by training in Sambo, free-style
wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He decided to dedicate his life to
the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He was certified to teach by
Pedro Carvalho, 6th degree black belt
in BJJ in 2000, and has been studying and teaching ever since. William
has trained in martial arts since the age of seven, and has over 32
years of experience to share with his students.
Whether you are looking to become a champion, learn self defense,
or just get in great shape, ABQ BJJ is the place for you. At
Albuquerque Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, our training philosophy is simple:
Only through consistency, repetition and a realistic approach to one's
training can proficiency in technique be achieved. The teacher must always
remain a student, and the student must always strive to be a teacher.
-
To become the hammer, you must first be the nail. So leave your ego
at the door, train hard, try new techniques, and over time you will
see what really works...
-
The black belt is simply the white belt who never quit...
-
The easy path is to take no risks, face no defeats, and practice only
what always works. That path is about looking good, and going nowhere ...
-
Losing is the act of learning, winning just the proof. If you are not tapping,
then you need better training partners to push you harder...
-
Real training is about sweating, trying new techniques, experimenting, and
tapping. That is the path to greatness...
